Politicians wished former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his birthday today. Manmohan Singh turned 85, was born in Gah in undivided Punjab in 1932. He shifted to Amritsar with his family all through Partition.
Manmohan Singh political career started in the 1990s when he was chosen as finance minister in the P Narasimha Rao government, despite his lack of political backdrop. Manmohan Singh, who had served as governor of the Reserve Bank amid 1982-85, was instrumental in initiating fundamental reforms that facilitate to shape India’s economy. He, later on, became the first Sikh prime minister of the country, in addition to served two terms amid 2004 to 2014.
Manmohan Singh graduated in Economics from Punjab University. He afterwards obtained a Masters degree in Economics from Cambridge University, along with D.Phil from the University of Oxford. He worked as a practised on the economic matter at the UN. He also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Finance Ministry as well as headed the Planning Commission. He has also qualified at the Delhi School of Economics.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee also alleged, “Very Happy Birthday and propitious #DurgaPuja #DrManmohanSingh Ji. Wishing you the best of all.”
