A few days back, in Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu), the department of police brutally killed two people that is Fenix and Jayaraj. But now from the recent information, it has been noticed that Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is going to transfer this case of father and son death to the CBI department. The death of father and son in Tamil Nadu was due to alleged custodial torture in the Sathankulam town near Thoothukudi. After this incident, the Traders Association downed shutters in the state from Wednesday only because the victims were traders belonging to Nadar Community.
What was the series of events that led to death in police custody? Jayaraj of 62 years was taken into police custody on June 19th, 2020, he worked in a mobile shop. He was taken into police custody because on June 18th, 2020 some of the people of the police department asked them to shut down the shop but he made some critical remarks about the police patrol team. One of the auto drivers told the police about all this the next day and he was taken into custody. While taking Jayaraj into custody, Fenix his son followed the police team and reached the police station. Then Jayaraj was brutally tortured by the police team, Fenix questioned them up that why are they doing this, instead of telling him the reason they pushed him to the custody as well. Ergo, after taking both of them into the custody police tortured them brutally.
What happened the next day? On the next day, that is June 20th, 2020 family of Jayaraj and Fenix waited outside the police station and saw that they are in bad condition. After that, they were taken to the hospital and their clothes were constantly changed due to severe building. Furthermore, after spending 3 hours at the hospital they were taken to the court and eye-witnessed brother in law of Jayaraj said that from the first floor only the magistrate waved his hand and they both were again taken into the custody. The family was not at all having any information about both of them till June 22nd, 2020. Therefore, due to continuous beating both Jayaraj and Fenix had internal as well as external injuries, Fenix died on June 22nd whereas Jayaraj the next day.
What actions have been taken? Two FIR’s have been filled but no officer has been booked for murder chargers. More than 6 people from the police department that is 4 police officers and 2 sub-inspectors are under suspension due to this case. Ergo, the proper inquiry is going on over there, the post mortem report has also been submitted in the high court and people are seeking CBI inquiry in this case.
Hence, this is one of the most shameful incidents that took place in Tamil Nadu a few days back. Chief Minister has said that the CBI inquiry has already been filled for this death case of Jayaraj and Fenix.
